The biggest thing to understand with Personal Watercraft (PWC) Jet Ski Safety is these Watercraft are not toys and they do not have brakes. The jet trust requires power to make turns, so if you get in trouble you can't let off the throttle and turn, the operator must apply power to make a turn otherwise the ski will track forward.
Every person operating, riding on, or being towed behind a personal watercraft must wear an approved non-inflatable personal flotation device (PFD) and must attach the Emergency engine cutoff switch lanyard (if equipped by the manufacturer) to his/her person.
States vary on what time of day a PWC Can be operated; the Florida law states that "PWC may never be operated from ½ hour after sunset to ½ hour before sunrise, even if navigation lights are used." In Michigan you are require to get off the water 1 hour prior to sunset. the State of Florida requires that operaters must be at least 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft in this state and at least 18 years of age to rent a personal watercraft.
